Coach Quinney focuses on simplifying the hitting and fielding process through explanation and demonstration. Understanding the cause and effect of certain movements is critical to making adjustments in both fielding and hitting. When players understand the "WHY" behind instruction they not only make better adjustments, but also buy in to the mechanics with more conviction.

Coach Quinney believes in combining the best of both styles. This allows him to work with players in ways that best suit the way they move. Not all players are the same, some benefit from a more rotational approach while others perform better with linear. As a general rule of thumb, Coach Quinney believes in rotational movements with a more linear bat path.
Both! Coach Quinney believes in focusing on bat path and consistent contact and line drives first. The reason is Coach Quinney believes that power starts with "barreling the ball". Once a hitter has developed a consistent bat path that can deliver consistent barrel he begins to add moves that promote more bat speed subsequently adding more power to an established and consistent swing.
While Coach Quinney is experienced in all defensive positions, he does not work with pitchers. His oldest daughter is a D1 outfielder, his second daughter is a D1 Catcher and his third daughter is a D1 infielder. His passion will always be infield work, particularly middle infield, shortstop and second base. As a player, Coach Quinney played shortstop and 3rb base.
100%! Coach Quinney believes that this is the most important piece to creating great softball players! Confidence is built through preparation and training. However, it's more than just reps. Young players need to learn how to manage emotions, overcome adversity and failure, slowing down the game and focusing on the process rather than the result. During training sessions Coach Quinney helps train the mind in these important details and helps softball players Unlock Her Full Potential!
No! Sometimes with very young players under the age of 10, this cue can be helpful to teach them how to rotate and turn their hips. However, it often leads to players getting stuck on their back side, not creating positive forward rotation into the ball and has to be corrected later. Coach prefers to teach players how to focus on firing their back hip which naturally transfers weight to center and pulling the trail heel "up" towards the sky encouraging players to transfer their energy towards the pitch.
Coach Quinney believes these are two different movements that are closely connected. Whether a players has a stride step, big leg lift or no stride once a player moves from their loaded position to their launch position, Coach Quinney believes the forward movement should come to a sudden stop and rotation should begin with firing the back hip to the ball, which results in the back heel turning upwards. Simultaneously, there is still some forward pressure on the ball of the foot as a result of the dynamic rotation created from firing the back hip. So both should occur, but as a result of rotation not just pushing forward.
Coach Quinney does not specialize in throwing specifically, but yes, he incorporates throwing mechanics and arm care within the fielding instruction. Similar to hitting, coach believes nothing can replace simple things like playing catch regularly and hitting anything and everything while young before spending lot's of money on lessons. Coach believes that players under 10 and starting as early as 5 should have fun playing catch regularly and hitting wiffle balls, baseballs or softballs in the street or park as often as possible. They learn naturally how to move correctly with very little instruction and are better equipped to absorb information during training in a more structured session. Nothing can replace basic catch at an early age.
